Never made it to summer camp?
Here is your opportunity!

The Department of Mathematics of the Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies (LACES) is expanding their summer Calculus Camp with the help of the Actuarial Foundation and volunteer actuarial mentors.

Calculus Camp provides a unique opportunity for interaction among students and actuarial mentors. During study sessions, mentors will be available to help a group of students who are working together on a problem with a direction or a new way to reach a solution. This group of students, teachers and mentors are a community all working together to the same end. The confidence that the students gain from this intense immersion in the subject matter will be of immense benefit to them as they go it alone on their AP calculus exam.

Actuarial volunteers are needed to serve as mentors to the calculus students at camp on April 16-19, 2009. Be a camper and stay for the three nights and four days of the camp experience, or drive up for a day of volunteering. If you never went to camp as a kid, now is your opportunity! Contact the Lead Actuary for this program, Richard Rasiej, ASA, MAAA at rmrasiej@verizon.net for more information.
